Restricted Items

Altered Cards

Artistic modifications, otherwise known are card alters, are acceptable under the following conditions:

  • The original card is recognizable.
  • The alteration does not contain substantial strategic advice.
  • The artistry does not contain offensive images.
  • The cost and card name are unobstructed.
  • Misprints or non-factory cut cards that mislead, obstruct, or obfuscate identifiable characteristics.

Pastimes Events and/or the Head Judge are the final authority on acceptable cards. If you plan to use altered cards of any sort, please make sure to speak with Pastimes Events staff and/or the Head Judge before the beginning of the event to ensure that your altered cards are approved for play in your event.

Most events run by Pastimes Events are sanctioned by Wizards of the Coast or other game manufacturers, which do not allow proxy cards. In certain situations, a Head Judge may issue a proxy for a card damaged during a tournament.

Proxy cards are any cards not printed by the manufacturer.

In addition for Magic: The Gathering events, cards with non-Magic: The Gathering backs are not legal for sanctioned events.

Food and Beverages

Please keep drinks on the floor rather than the tables at all times. Spills may damage valuable cards and disrupt games beyond repair. All trash must be thrown out in the proper containers. Do not leave trash on the tables.

Please keep in mind that some event locations enforce a “no outside food and beverage allowed” or “designated eating area” policies.

Are weapons permitted on the premises of the event?

DO NOT bring weapons to an event. Weapons include, but are not limited to, guns, knives, blunt items with no local purpose, and any items brought specifically to harm another individual.

These categories of items make people feel unsafe. If you are caught with such items you’ll be asked to leave the hall immediately and potentially barred from reentry into the convention center or future events altogether.

This policy is at the full discretion of Pastimes Events, convention organizers, and the administration of the event location.

Cosplay Props

Pastimes Events Staff and building security reserve the right to inspect all attendees’ props to ensure that no authentic weapons of any kind are brought onto the building’s property or into the building. By attending a Pastimes Event, all attendees expressly agree and consent to this inspection and waive any and all objections. Any and all authentic weapons are strictly prohibited and those found or identified during any such inspection may be confiscated by convention staff and security.

Attendees will be asked to remove any props violating the following:

  • No firearms, airsoft weapons, or replicas of guns. No functional bows and arrows. Any prop guns must look like a prop from 50 feet away. This is for your safety and for the safety of our other members.
  • No live steel. Live steel is defined as swords, knives, or other objects made of metal, which can take an edge. Dull metal weapons are considered live steel, and therefore are not permitted.
  • No metal or wood bats, metal pipes, or long metal chains.
  • Any item that is designed or manufactured with the intent to cause bodily injury or death, or any other item that appears dangerous or may pose a risk of harm will not be allowed on the premises. This will be up to the sole discretion of qualified Pastimes Events staff / security.
  • Operating a prop to shoot an object of any material is not allowed at Pastimes Events.

Acceptable Behavior

Code Of Conduct

Put Fun First

Competition is a part of games, but win or lose, we keep it friendly, respectful, and fun.

Everyone is Welcome

Our community includes a range of diverse people. No matter who sits down at the table with us, we make them feel welcome.

Keep it Clean, Physically and Verbally

We’re all caretakers of the game experience and that includes the spaces we play in. Each of us should help to maintain a clean and safe environment for all.

Obey the Rules

We follow all event rules in order to create an experience everyone can enjoy.

Dress Code

Our show or area is all-ages and we ask that costumes reflect that idea (think PG-13). We have created the following guidelines to ensure that everyone has the best experience possible, in and out of costume.

This is a unisex dress code. Clothing requirements are identical for all genders, and size/weight discrimination in dress code will not be tolerated.

  • Hate symbols aren’t welcome at Pastimes Events.
  • Clothing must not have any vulgar images or language.
  • Shirt and full coverage bottoms are required for all sexes (shorts/bottoms covering full cheeks), with no exceptions for cosplay in public areas.
  • Underwear shouldn’t be visible, nor should a costume make you appear that you are wearing no undergarments.
  • Nudity, or the illusion of nudity, is not acceptable.
  • Footwear must be worn at all times; stocking feet/socks without shoes are not sufficient.

General Event Policies

Buy, Sell, & Trade Policy

Trading is, of course, permitted at our events.
Everyone is welcome to trade cards with the goal of building decks or collecting their favorite cards. Trading cards for the primary purpose of gaining value or earning a profit is restricted to those who have purchased a vendor booth for the event. Buying and selling cards with anyone other than official vendors is strictly prohibited. The enforcement of all event policies is at the sole discretion of the Pastimes Events staff.

Some additional things aren’t permitted on site and may result in ejection from the venue or Pastimes Events area without refund. Examples include:
Buying, selling, or soliciting to buy or sell with anyone except Authorized Vendors.
Altering or offering to alter cards in exchange for money or any type of compensation.
Taking up excessive space while trading or transporting excessive amounts of trade stock.
Advertising* without permission from Pastimes Events staff.

*Wearing a T-Shirt representing a store or playing with a playmat / sleeves with store logo / name is OK. Passing out fliers, cards or other items without permission is NOT OK.

If you have questions about specifics or seek permission for something that may be construed as advertising, please email us or join our Discord server at PastimesEvents.com/Discord.

If you notice behavior on-site that violates these rules, please let a Pastimes Events staff member know.

Registering in Multiple Events

Can I play in two events at he same time? You can be registered for multiple events at the same time, but you can only be active in one.

Active means playing games of Magic: The Gathering. Deck construction also counts as ‘active’ for registration purposes.

If you would become active in two events, you will have to choose and drop from one of them.

In clear terms- Do not double queue. If we catch you doing this you’ll be dropped from one of the events and potentially both.

Lost & Found

I lost an item at an event! What do I do now?

If you are still onsite, you should attempt the following:

  1. Look where you were just sitting. Many times the item in question has been left on or below a table either immediately following a match or when playing casually with friends and then moving.
  2. If it has been a significant period of time or you’ve already done #1, please go to the Prize Wall. They will help check the lost & found inventory available from items that have been turned in by staff, judges, players, etc. So it is quite possible a good samaritan or staff member has already found your item and turned it in.

If it is not in the lost & found at that time, you can give us your name & contact information along with a description of the item. That way if it is found during the weekend we are able to contact you and let you know.

I did not realize I had lost anything until I already left for the weekend, what can I do?

For Magic items and accessories (cards, decks, boxes, etc.): please email us or join our Discord server at PastimesEvents.com/Discord providing us with any unique or identifying features about the item.

If you contact us or left us your information and we find your item, we will let you know if we believe we have the item in the L&F inventory. We try to inventory all lost items before packing them for shipment and they eventually are shipped back to our primary warehouse. Once we confirm we have the item we’ll ask for your shipping information and get it back to you at first opportunity.

Please note that while we may believe we have an item based on inventory description, it is often in transport following a show and will need to be unpacked and checked at the primary warehouse before we have 100% confirmation and that there will often be a 1-3 week delay before confirmation / shipping can happen.

For items that are non-Magic in nature (Clothing, glasses, wallet, etc.): At the end of the weekend we leave them with the venue staff. This means you will want to contact the venue via email or phone, typically there is someone assigned to look through the catalog of lost items they have and get back to you.

Pastimes Events Credit

Pastimes Events Credit has no monetary value.

Pastimes Events Credit is only useable for the show you purchased the package from. At the end of that show all Pastimes Events Credit will be removed from your account and any that may be left there is worth $0.00.

Every Show day after On Demand Events close $1 in Pastimes Events Credit can be redeemed for 100 Prize Tixs.
